Legal notice
Privacy notice
This site sets no cookies of its own, uses no analytics or advertising, and has no forms or user accounts, and everything a page loads comes from this site. You can read every page without giving us any personal data. Only if you choose to play a film or open the map does your browser contact another service. This notice explains each way in which data about your visit is processed.
Who is responsible
The controller under Article 4(7) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Berlin Experiences DMC UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Gotlandstraße 10a, 10439 Berlin, Germany, represented by its managing director, Matthew Robinson. Email: info@berlinexperiences.com. Further details are in the imprint.
Hosting and server log files
The site is hosted by Hostinger. When you open a page, your browser sends the server technical information that it needs to deliver the page, and the server records it in log files: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page, the amount of data sent, the status of the request, and your browser's user-agent string. We use this information only to deliver the site, to keep it secure and stable, and to see in aggregate which pages are read and which search engines read them. We do not combine it with other data or use it to identify visitors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Hostinger processes this data on our behalf; see Hostinger's privacy policy. Log files are kept only as long as these purposes require.
Fonts and search
The typefaces are served from this site, not loaded from Google or any other font service. The search page looks up words in an index downloaded from this site and runs in your browser; what you type is not sent anywhere.
Films and the map, only when you ask
Pictures in the archive are shown from this site. Where an archive's terms do not allow us to copy a picture, the record links to it at that archive instead of showing it, and nothing is sent there unless you follow the link. Two features load content from other services, and only after you click:
- Films on film records play in the Internet Archive's player (San Francisco, USA). When you press play, your browser loads the player from archive.org, which receives your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the address of the page, and sets cookies. Your IP address is then transferred to the United States. Internet Archive terms of use.
- The map on the map page draws its modern base map from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom) once you choose to show it, and the 1953 aerial photographs from Geoportal Berlin (State of Berlin) only if you also choose that layer. Each receives your IP address and the requests for the map tiles. OpenStreetMap privacy policy; gdi.berlin.de.
The legal basis is your consent, given by clicking (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, and § 25(1) TDDDG for the Internet Archive's cookies); it covers that one page view, and you withdraw it simply by not clicking again. Links to other websites send nothing to those sites until you follow them; their own privacy policies then apply.
If you write to us, for example to report an error, we use your email address and what you write only to answer you and to correct the site, and we delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed for that. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries and keeping the site accurate (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, and to have it corrected, erased or restricted, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Articles 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to info@berlinexperiences.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; the authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (datenschutz-berlin.de).
